Meridian House, aims to work collaboratively to ensure that all students develop academically, personally, socially and emotionally so that they can be successful both at school and beyond. Our curriculum focuses on four areas: .
Curriculum. Our curriculum drives the support and education provided to our students. It focuses on aspects that are particularly pertinent for appropriate provision settings such as student induction, quality of education, good outcomes, strong relationships, as well as physical and mental health and wellbeing. Our Curriculum is divided into 4 areas of study, each aspect includes different parts of subject study. We need all aspects to be successful and to have the tools we need to be well prepared for a positive adult life.
Progress: We use Bromcom to input data to measure academic attainment and progress. However, we value the development of a students personal and wider skills and use different ways to assess growth, order to understand the impact on the individual. It is important that we understand how far we have come and celebrate success at every opportunity. This is alongside the termly review of each students APDR, taking on board student, parent/carer and staff voice.
Community. We recognise external partners form a crucial part of the wider educational system and we value Learning Outside the Classroom. We both safeguard and support students in this area. Strong relationships and effective partnerships are crucial components of our quality curriculum and we are proud to work with carefully selected specialist staff.
Enrichment: we commit to embedding enrichment into our curriculum, which supports students to develop faster and into a more rounded individual. This includes our commitment to extending the boundaries of learning, for example through our 50 things and PLEDGES.
Currency. The benefit of our approach is found in the outcomes and value gained by students in our directed provision, including personal development, academic performance and successful transition to appropriate destinations.
CEIAG : We know that high quality careers education and guidance is critical. It supports the achievement of young people’s aspirations. It helps to prepare them for the next step in their education or readiness for the workplace, as part of preparation for adulthood, by providing a clear understanding of the world of work including the routes to jobs and careers that they might find engaging and rewarding. We support students to gain self-development and career management skills they need to achieve positive employment destinations, and help students to choose their routeways, improve their life opportunities and contribute to their community. Courage. We recognize that it is important for our learners to know, understand and value themselves to ensure that they become courageous learners. An important aspect of this is their own Mental Health and Well Being, an area key to our CREW philosophy. CREW is a way of being that creates a culture of compassion, respect, teamwork, and shared responsibility; it is important for relationship building, academic progress monitoring, and character development.
Mental Health & Well Being: To be a positive community member we recognise that everyone needs positive mental health and have developed strategies to support this. We use Respectful Relationships, underpinned by Positive Regard and Therapeutic Teaching strategies, with students and have specifically planned lessons, including work with horses and dogs as part of our animal well-being.
