External Partners

Our mission is to inspire, educate and guide the next generation towards brighter futures through delivery of bespoke, impactful programs tailored to specific needs. At times quality first teaching alone at Meridian House may not be enough to meet the needs of our students. If this is the case, in partnership with your home school, Meridian House may implement a range of specific and targeted therapeutic interventions, designed to individual needs. We are committed to working in partnership with a range of therapeutic services, education and community stakeholders to make ensure we do all that we can to make students successful at Meridian House.

Underpinning this is Meridian Trust’s commitment to its vision that every child is known and supported to achieve their potential. This commitment also includes that the Trust’s school’s communities are supported by the services we partner with, for example:

  • CAMHS
  • Social care supporting alcohol, drug and substance abuse
  • Welfare support with agencies including EHA, TAC, CIN
  • Equine and dog well-being and therapy
  • Home School Counsellors
  • Kooth, online support with professional counsellors

Wider activities

Summer Term activities will include kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding, offering scenic paddling on calm waters, alongside the chance to gain accreditation in Paddle Awards. Many lakes and reservoirs across the country are accessible for these activities, with some offering opportunities for both beginners and experienced paddlers, but we are fortunate to be able to use Whitewater Lake, near Stamford and started with our external instructor this summer. Pictures are often shared via social media platforms Instagram and Facebook.

Canoeing
Single-bladed paddles are great for long and stable propulsion, they minimize short, sharp movements and is great for families wanting to explore the lakes in comfort. When paddling in a canoe you will use alternate strokes – with one hand on the grip and the other hand on the paddle shaft the paddler will propel themselves forward by using pushing the blade through the water.

Kayaking
Double-bladed paddles are great for learning, it’s easy to pick up the skills and get going. Because the seating position in a kayak is lower than a canoe a single paddle doesn’t provide sufficient power to propel yourself. The double-bladed paddle is great for maneuverability, you can zig-zag and general travel faster than canoes. Kayaking is great for friends and families, you can enjoy a range of games, add an element of competition with chase the leader or race against each other.

The boat

Canoe boats generally carry more people, canoeing is more of a leisure sport and are ideal for exploring with the whole family. Kayaks carry less people and have a sleek design, meaning they are better for speed.

Harrold Odell Country Park

We are fortunate to be able to access this area for use of the outside fitness gym, nature walks and quizzes, pond dipping and orienteering. We have worked closely with Harrold Country Park to develop our Biology GCSE, Ecology Unit and students go to the park for their selected lessons to learn outside. Harrold Odell Country Park

Skateboarding

We have targeted skateboarding as a new taster activity to promote focus, discipline, outward bounds and a different sport, as it is an Olympic sport: Skateboarding: Olympic history, rules, latest updates and upcoming events for the Olympic sport
